Morgantown Triathlon Sunday to Interrupt Traffic

The Morgantown Police Department will be altering traffic patterns on Sunday, June 24, 2012, for the Wells Fargo Advisors  Mountaineer  Triathlon. On Sunday, June  24, 2012, the Triathlon  will start at 7:00 am, beginning in the Wharf District with the swimming portion of the event. The bicycle portion within the City Limits will be primarily on the US 119 South I University Avenue. The bicycle portion will then travel on WV route 73 I Smithtown Road for approximately  13 miles. Morgantown Police Department officers will be assisting  with altered traffic patterns and the following  streets will be closed or delayed for the event:

* The Rail Trail will be closed from the Wharf District to Eljadid Street in Sabraton from 7:00 am until approximately 3:00pm.

* Clay Street will be closed between Donley Street and Wharf Street.

* Hurley Street, Mechanic Street, Wharf Street, Donley Street and Donley Alley will be closed at Clay

Street.

*Donley Street will be closed from Ford Street to University Avenue.

* Callen Avenue will be closed from Mississippi Street to University Avenue

The run portion of the event is the final leg and begins immediately following the bicycle event. The majority of the run portion will be conducted on the Rail Trail.  It will begin in the Wharf District, continue towards Sabraton, turning around at Eljadid Street and concluding at Clay Street.

Non-participating pedestrians and cyclists are asked to be courteous and obey restricted areas posted on the Rail Trail.

Normal traffic patterns are expected to be resumed at 3:00 pm.

Motorists are reminded to be extra cautious when encountering bicyclists or runners on the roadway, especially on the secondary roads.
