A councilor’s recommendation yielded a 7-0 vote from City Council.
February 7, 2012
MORGANTOWN – The Morgantown City Council would like to remind residents that this upcoming Tuesday’s meeting, as well as all future meetings, will begin at 7 p.m. sharp, rather than the past time of 7:30 p.m.
Councilor Linda Herbst from Ward 7 made the suggestion at the January 3, 2012 regular meeting during Reports from Council Members near the end of the meeting. City Clerk Linda Little looked into the possibilities, and gave a report at the February 7th regular meeting.
“I did some research on this, and the City Charter doesn’t indicate anything for us on that,” Little said. “So I went back to Council Journal clear back to 1960. And in 1978, City Council had made a vote to change it from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.”
Council agreed that if they took a vote in ’78, they should take a vote this time as well. After brief discussion, Little directed Council to change the time of the meeting in the same manner that Council did in 1978 – by a roll call vote of 7-0. Action was also taken to thank Councilor Herbst for her recommendation.
The new meeting time of 7:00 p.m. will begin with the next regular meeting on Feburary 21, 2012. You can find the agenda after 4 p.m. Friday, February 17 at http://morgantown.com/council-docs.htm.
If you have questions, please contact City Clerk Linda Little at her office, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The number there is (304) 284-7434.
